What is SCENAR Therapy?

A holistic approach to restoring equilibrium

SCENAR therapy is a form of electrical nerve stimulation that is used as a treatment for a variety of conditions. SCENAR therapy involves the use of a handheld device that delivers small electrical impulses to the skin. The device is designed to detect and adapt to the body’s changing electrical resistance, and the impulses it delivers stimulate the body’s natural healing processes.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work?

Scenar therapy is a form of electrostimulation. A mild electrical current is applied to the skin over painful or dysfunctional areas of the body.

The skin’s nerve receptors then transmit signals to the brain via the central nervous system. The treatment promotes the release of neuropeptides which promote pain relief and healing. This makes Scenar therapy an effective and non-invasive treatment.

Generally, these effects manifest rapidly and are not restricted to the treated area. Scenar is typically much more than a temporary fix; once it has fully penetrated the skin, the results are typically long-lasting. Chronic conditions that persist may require intensive treatment over a period of several months.

If your doctor and other therapists have already tried their best to alleviate your symptoms, there is still a good chance that Scenar therapy can help. It is extremely effective at relieving pain and restoring function, even for chronic conditions.

In a 2014 (non-clinical) study at RMIT University (Melbourne, Australia), 481 Scenar users’ responses were analysed. The average reduction in pain was 70%, and 92% of respondents rated Scenar as superior to other therapies they had tried.

What conditions can be treated?

The only majour treatment contraindication is the presence of electrical implants, such as cardiac pacemakers. Individual therapists may, for a variety of reasons, choose not to treat certain conditions.

Pain due to musculoskeletal and neurological causes are the most common health conditions treated. This includes back pain, neck pain, muscle and joint aches, fractures and torn tissues, frozen shoulder and migraines.

Does it produce side effects?

Scenar is completely safe, and suitable for people of all ages, and nearly everyone’s body will respond. Since its invention more than three decades ago, there have been no reports of adverse side effects. In terms of positive side effects, many individuals report improved sleep, relaxation, and well-being.

What does it feel like?

You will feel a tingling or prickly sensation on your skin as the device cycles through treatment cycles. This sensation varies by location and between Scenar devices and treatment modes. People typically report an immediate reduction in pain, and frequently a complete absence of pain in the treated areas — at least for the duration of the treatment, but sometimes permanently, and frequently for hours or days later, with the pain-free intervals typically growing longer and longer.

Are Scenar and TENS machines the same?

There are some similarities, but Scenar is far superior to TENS machines. TENS, like many other electrical stimulation devices, is a simple but effective method for temporarily blocking pain pathways to the brain, for example during childbirth. As the body becomes accustomed to the signal, the effects are transient and require constant repetition. Scenar, in contrast, generates an interactive feedback loop with a complex, constantly-changing signal and profound, cumulative, and long-lasting effects.

How many sessions are required?

It depends. With chronic conditions, the rate at which the body responds is influenced by a variety of factors, including general health, diet quality, past injuries and surgeries, stress levels, and the nature of previous treatments.

In cases of extremely acute conditions and recent injuries, it may be advisable to undergo treatment twice or thrice per week, or even daily. There is a window of opportunity for extremely rapid progress and preventing the condition from becoming chronic in these circumstances. Your own desire to regain mobility as soon as possible may also be a factor. However, the typical frequency is initially once or twice per week, then once per week, until the treatments have clearly taken effect and the symptoms begin to diminish.

Leaving gaps of two weeks or more slows your overall progress by reducing momentum and possibly leading to regression. Some conditions, such as simple back pain or a minor injury, can be treated in one or two sessions. Others will require several weeks or months, and certain persistent chronic conditions may require long-term treatment.

How about my ongoing medical treatment?

Before beginning Scenar, it is best to see your primary care physician for an overall diagnosis. If you are already under their care, it is best to inform them that you are also receiving Scenar treatment. It is unlikely that they will have heard of it, but you can inform them that it is a new form of electro stimulation pain relief that is a significant improvement over TENS machines and an excellent complement to conventional medicine.

You should also inform them that as the Scenar treatments continue, the body may become more receptive to medications, thereby increasing their potency. Especially if you notice a change in your symptoms, you should bring this to your doctor’s attention: as a medical professional, he or she should be the one to determine whether this warrants a dosage adjustment.
